Packing Cubes

The Essentials

Set it up, understand the key functions and get ready to use it.

Compress your cube

This applies to Zoomlite compression packing cubes only. Regular cubes have a single zipper and organise your packing without compressing it.

Pack the cube as normal and close the main zipper first. Then work the second, compression zipper gradually around the cube to squeeze out the air and reduce its depth. Go steadily rather than pulling it closed in one movement.

Soft, bulky items compress best: puffer jackets, jumpers, T-shirts and towels. Dense fabrics such as denim, thick wool coats and leather barely shrink, so pack those in a regular cube or flat in your case.

Helpful Tip: Press lightly on the cube as you close the compression zipper so the contents settle evenly.

Fill your cubes without overpacking

Pack each cube until it is comfortably full, but avoid forcing in more than the zipper can easily close around. A well-filled cube holds its shape and keeps clothes organised without putting unnecessary strain on the fabric or zipper.

Helpful Tip: If you need to pull hard on the zipper, take one or two items out rather than forcing it closed.

Fold or roll your clothes

Both methods work. Folding is usually better for structured clothing and items you want to keep flatter, while rolling works well for softer clothes such as T-shirts, activewear and casual pieces. Choose the method that lets you see and access your clothes most easily.

Helpful Tip: Try packing rolled clothes vertically so you can see more items at a glance.

Make the Most of It

Practical tips and ideas to help you use it more effectively.

Arrange cubes inside your suitcase
Arrange cubes inside your suitcase

Start with your larger cubes and place them flat in the main packing area. Use smaller cubes to fill the remaining spaces around them. Keeping cubes together in a simple layout makes them easier to lift out and put back without disturbing the rest of your packing.

Helpful Tip: Place the cube you expect to need first closest to the top or opening of your suitcase.

Choose what goes in each cube

Use different cube sizes to group similar items together. Larger cubes work well for tops, trousers and knitwear; smaller cubes are useful for underwear, socks, sleepwear and accessories. The aim is to give everything a place so you can find it without unpacking your whole suitcase.

Helpful Tip: Keep one category in each cube where possible. It makes packing, unpacking and repacking much quicker.

Create a packing system that works for you

There is no single right way to organise packing cubes. You can group them by clothing type, by outfit, by family member or even by day of the trip. The best system is the one that makes it easiest for you to find what you need without opening every cube.

Helpful Tip: For family trips, assigning a colour to each person can make everyone’s packing easier to identify.

Label your cubes your way
Label your cubes your way

Every Zoomlite packing cube has a built-in label window, and each cube comes with two labels. Use them however makes sense for your trip, whether that is by clothing type, destination, day of the week, family member or outfit, so you can identify what’s inside without opening every cube.

Helpful Tip: If you travel often, keep one label for a permanent category and use the second for trip-specific details.

Separate clean and worn clothes

Packing cubes can also help you organise your clothes as the trip progresses. Keep worn items in a separate cube, or repurpose an empty cube once you start using your clothes. This keeps clean clothing easier to manage and makes unpacking simpler when you get home.

Helpful Tip: Leave one cube partly empty at the start of your trip so you have somewhere for worn clothes later.

Build your packing system over time

You don’t need to build your entire packing setup at once. Add cubes as your travel style changes, your luggage collection grows or you start packing for more people.

Zoomlite cubes come in multiple sizes and colours, with both regular and compression options. You can choose one of our ready-made suitcase sets or build your own combination of sizes, colours and cube types.

Helpful Tip: Use different colours for different people, destinations or packing categories to make your system easier to recognise.

Care, Repairs & Support

Cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting and help when something goes wrong.

Wash and care for your packing cubes

For everyday marks, wipe the cubes with a damp cloth and mild detergent. When a deeper clean is needed, follow the care instructions supplied with your cubes and allow them to dry completely before storing or repacking them.

Helpful Tip: Close the zippers before washing or storing your cubes so they are less likely to catch on other items.

Compress without straining the zipper

Compression works best when the cube is full but not overstuffed. If the compression zipper feels unusually difficult to close, redistribute the contents or remove an item. Forcing the zipper can put unnecessary strain on both the zipper and the fabric.

Helpful Tip: Check that loose fabric or clothing hasn’t caught near the zipper before you continue closing it.

Understand your warranty

Your packing cubes are covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects, so if a zip or seam fails because of how it was made, we will put it right.

Covered: faults in zippers, stitching or components that come from manufacturing.

Not covered: overpacking, misuse, accidents, external damage, and the normal wear that comes with regular use.

Helpful Tip: Keep your order confirmation handy. It is all we need to look up your purchase if you ever make a claim.

Good to Know

Answers to the questions customers ask most often.

How many packing cubes do I need?

It depends on the size of your suitcase, the length of your trip and how you prefer to organise your packing.

To make it easier, we offer ready-made packing sets for different suitcase sizes, as well as a Build Your Own option where you can choose your own mix of regular and compression cubes by size and colour.

Do packing cubes save space?

Packing cubes mainly help you organise your suitcase and use the available space more efficiently. Regular packing cubes do not physically compress your clothes, but they make it easier to pack items neatly and reduce unused gaps.

What should I avoid compressing?

Soft clothing such as T-shirts, underwear, knitwear and activewear usually compresses well. Bulky or structured items that can lose their shape are better packed without heavy compression.

Do compression cubes reduce luggage weight?

No. Compression cubes reduce the volume your clothes take up, but they do not reduce their weight. In fact, because you may be able to fit more into your suitcase, it is still important to check your final luggage weight before travelling.
